Indoor Orienteering

placeholder image sqplaceholder imageplaceholder imageplaceholder image sqplaceholder image sqplaceholder image

For those who love orienteering sports, indoor orienteering is undoubtedly a new and challenging event format. Unlike traditional outdoor orienteering, indoor orienteering takes place across multiple floors of a shopping mall, cleverly connecting the mall space into a three-dimensional urban maze.

The difficulty of the event lies not only in quickly and accurately identifying one's position and direction but also in adapting flexibly and choosing the best routes through the floors. Runners need to maintain a high level of concentration and employ proficient map navigation skills to locate various control points in the complex and ever-changing indoor environment.

This event format, which tests both physical fitness and intellectual strategy, not only hones the comprehensive abilities of orienteering athletes but also provides an exciting and enjoyable viewing experience for spectators. Indoor orienteering opens a new competitive world for sports enthusiasts, inviting more people to explore and embrace this special challenge!

Race Format

During the race, runners use maps provided by the organizers, which indicate the locations of control points. Based on the map information, they navigate through different floors of the mall, make route choices, and search for control points. The runner with the shortest time wins!

The most distinctive feature of indoor orienteering is that the course spans across different floors. The indoor orienteering map consists of multiple smaller maps, with each map representing a floor. The course extends across several maps, combining the terrain of the mall into a three-dimensional maze.

Race Features

Exclusive Indoor Venue

The Race is specially arranged to take place after the mall's operating hours, avoiding crowds and creating a worry-free environment for runners to compete!

A Unique Experience

The only event of its kind in Hong Kong, providing everyone with an unforgettable experience in the evening!

A Test of Intelligence

Unlike typical orienteering or running events, indoor orienteering is closer to a modern treasure-hunting game, testing your sense of direction and map-reading skills!

No Fear of Heat

With a comfortable mall environment, there's no need to worry about the scorching summer heat. Enjoy the event to the fullest!

"Through different means such as setting obstacles and connecting two buildings with designated routes, the indoor orienteering event significantly enhances the difficulty and diversity of the course. During the course, even though certain points may seem within reach, athletes may spend several minutes figuring out how to navigate there indirectly, making them feel lost like a mouse wandering aimlessly in a maze. This creates an inner battle but is also filled with enjoyment!"

Mr. CHOI Wai Kit @ Orienteering Life "Sportsoho May 2020"
